January 19, 2010BIG, BIG!
January 11, 2010Big, Big is Madison’s new adjective to describe just about everything. She needs her big, big girl cup. Big, Big mess. Big, Big poop. Big, Big Bubbles. So on, and so on.
Madison’s eye is finally clearing up. It’s still swollen a little, but it did a half way burst open the other day during her nap, which really freaked her out. She wouldn’t let me clean her eye at first, so I had to show her in the mirror how messy and gross it was. She says she has bugs in her eyes. Yikes, but she let me clean her up after that.
This is her latest BIG, BIG MESS!
3rd Eye Stye
January 6, 2010EEWW Grosss! That’s what Madison says when she sees her eye in the mirror these last couple of days. She has a stye in her left eye and that sucker got huge. The swelling and infection are starting to go down but it’s still pretty prominent on her eyelid and the puss is starting to come up to the top and is begging to be freed. Ya I know thats gross to say, but I swear that’s what it’s saying. Here is a sideway glance to show how swollen it is.

A funny story!
December 18, 2009The other night we were eating supper. Madison has a bad habit of spitting out her food, even if she likes it, but if she gets distracted or wants to try another item she’ll just spit it out. She did this the other night, and when she did I told her she had to eat another bite before she could get down from her chair. I get up to go wash the dishes and Loren came over with me. I peek at her out of the corner of my eye to see if she was talking a bite, and instead she was shoving the meat UNDERNEATH her plate, and doing it fast too. I laughed to myself and told Loren what she did. She calls out, “Done!” So Loren walks over to hear and says, your done, and she says, Yep! To which he lifted her plate and said so what’s this? She cracked up laughing! She thought it was the funniest thing ever. She won and got to get down from her chair.
Follow Up after getting tubes.
December 9, 2009Madison did awesome this past Friday with getting the tubes put in. I thought it was going to be one big cranky fest in the morning before the procedure because we couldn’t give her anything to drink or eat before the procedure. She did wake up a little cranky and wanted nothing to do with putting her coat on, of course it was the coldest day of the year at that time (the next day was colder), so to not agitate her any further we just wrapped her in a blanket to get to the hospital. She was in a good mood on the drive there and in the waiting room she stayed entertained and didn’t ask for anything to drink. We had to keep her entertained for 2 hrs once they called us into the back prep area. Seriously this is my only complaint of the day. WHY couldn’t they have just let us stay in the waiting room? For the most part Madison stayed happy, but she wanted to run around and explore, and they said we couldn’t leave the cubby area with curtains, which that was one of the first things she wanted to do was run thru them. We went thru all the books I brought, colored everything, played with glove balloons, danced, jumped on the bed, sang ABC a billion times, watched monitors, and played peek a boo with the bed covers. Oh and listened to the ringtones on my phone a few times too. Next time I’ll remember to bring our portable DVD player.
Next came the Tylenol with some other nice little drug mixed in to relax her right before they took her back. She responded completely opposite. It was like they gave her a shot of sugar and all of a sudden sliding off the hospital bed thru the bed rails and climbing back up (with dad’s help of course) over and over again was the best thing since milk in a sippy cup. It really bothered the nurse that she didn’t want to stay in the bed (if we tried to hold her in the bed, she would scream so Loren just kept playing catch) and kept coming by saying keep her in bed, keep her in bed. I told her I know she’s worried she will hurt herself, but dad has a good gripe on her and isn’t letting go. The drug did kick in and she slowed down some but still wanted to climb. It was kind of funny and kind of disturbing to see the glazed over drunk look in her eyes with a goofy grin. Even the anesthesiologist was surprised that she was still going and said that it does happen in rare cases, figures, and instead of pushing the whole bed in he would just carry to avoid her potentially rolling of the bed.
So the dr. carried her off, and of course I cried, but not in front of her. We waited about 20 minutes until the ENT dr came out and told us everything went well, just that the walls were a little thin but things should be fine. We were called into the recovery area, and oh yea you could hear Madison crying as soon as you hit the door. We got to her, but nothing would console her. All she wanted was MMMMIIIIILLLLLLKKKKKKK, but the nurses said she couldn’t have milk yet because that usually upsets the tummy right after waking up. So we spent the next hour trying to get her to drink, apple juice (that got the worst response), water she wouldn’t even try, and Sprite got a few seconds of silence. As soon as she finished the sip of Sprite she would start yelling for her milk again. Finally we were able to leave and as soon as we got into the car we got her, her sippy cup of milk (thermos waiting in the car) and her “Cheetos,” (Gerber puffs) and it was like we had never deprived her of milk that morning or given her drugs, and she was good as new. That is pretty much the ended of it. She took a long nap and hated the ear drops, but other than that she was ready to play as normal after her nap. So all in all it was a pretty good day and all went well.
Santa is a No Go.
December 3, 2009I took Madison to see Santa Claus yesterday to see if she would sit on his lap or take a picture. Nope Santa in the flesh is not someone she wants to be meeting yet. Poor thing, but she wanted the sucker he was waving at her, so she let me take her close enough to grab that, and then went off. I told her it was okay we were leaving and to tell Santa bye, bye. In her loudest crying voice she said, ” BBBYYYE BBBYYYEEE ”Canta caus”, while waving and big ol’ tears streaming down her face.” Everyone in line did the, “aaawww,” in unison. Oh well maybe next year. She went to town on the sucker she got. There was sucker EVERY. WHERE.
Tomorrow we take Madison to get the tubes put in her ears. I know it’s a minor procedure, but I am not looking forward to it at all. I hate that they have to put her under. And of course we are supposed to be getting SNOW, tomorrow. We never get snow in our part of Texas, but we should be getting some tomorrow. Wow! Of all the days.
I’ll update as soon as I can.
ELMO GROWS UP!
December 1, 2009My friend Janet and I took Madison and her nephew, Ashton to go see Seasame Street Live, Elmo Grows Up. We had a really good time and the kids did too, and for the most part really they were really well behaved and watched the show. They both interacted with the show and danced and ate popcorn and sang along. There was a 15 minute intermission for a potty break for the kids and snacks. Madison and Ashton were all about the intermission and running off some steam, they climbed up and down the stairs repeatedly and also chased each other on the floor. The last time we were walking down the stairs though Madison took a step in front of me ( I was holding her hand) and I tried to correct and not step on her. I not only ended up stepping on her foot, I still fell the last 2 steps and landed hard on my knee. That was the only casualty and the rest of the show went on with only a small meltdown from Ashton and a I accidentally said shit a little to loud once and received a devil look from a mom sitting next to me. Opps.
